Abstract

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a recurring problem and this problem is faced by majority of the people at some point in their lifetime. Mechanical low back pain (LBP) is an injury or disturbance of an anatomical structure in the lower back region of spine. Mechanical low back pain (LBP) poorly affects the Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQOL) as well as mental health of the individuals, which becomes the cause of depression and anxiety which in turn shorten the recovery of LBP as well as other diseases take place. Physical therapy is most preferable treatments of mechanical low back pain.


Objectives: The basic objective of this research was to find out the Prevalence of Mechanical low back pain among bus drivers.


Methodology: After meeting the inclusion criteria of 377 Drivers with Mechanical Low back pain the data was collected. For this purpose, Oswestry Disability Index questionnaire was used. Data was collected by using this questionnaire and convenient sampling was used to select the participants.
Results: Prevalence of mechanical low back pain among bus drivers is 60.21%. There were 112 drivers of the age group 30- 35 years who had minimal disability, while 61.2% (n=115) drivers with minimal disability, 38.8% (n=73) drivers had moderate disability with the age group of 36-45 and 96.1% (n=74) had moderate disability, 3.9% (n=3) had very severe disability with the age group of 46-50 years.


Conclusion: Incidence of mechanical low back pain (LBP) among bus drivers is enhancing day by day. This disorder has a substantial impact on physical function and use of health care. Randomized controlled therapeutic trials are needed regarding mechanical low back pain so that a standardized treatment regimen can be established.
